WEST HAVEN, Conn. – New Haven Women's Basketball suffered its first loss in NEC play on Thursday night, as it fell to Le Moyne College, 48-40.
In the defensive battle, reigning NEC Women's Player of the Week,
Aniya McDonald-Perry (Middletown, Conn./Putnam Science Academy), played only 18 minutes after getting into early foul trouble. New Haven relied on
Addisen Sulikowski (Saco, ME/Thornton Academy) and
Lindsay Hogan (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) to carry the mail with its star out. Both forwards scored 10 points in 38 minutes (Hogan) and 32 minutes (Sulikowski). Sulikowski also collected eight rebounds.
New Haven had its way in the paint, scoring 22 of its 40 points in the lane. It also held an advantage in second-chance points, 10-4.
""Aniya being in foul trouble changed the complexion of the game. We needed others to step up on the offensive end, which did not happen. We need to be resilient when things are not going as planned,"
Debbie Buff said postgame.
New Haven plays its first road NEC game on Saturday, Jan. 10, as it travels to FDU. Opening tipoff between the Chargers and Knights is set for 2:00 p.m.
