FORT MYERS, Fla. — New Haven dropped a 12-2 decision to the University of Missouri on Friday at Terry Park, with the Chargers producing seven hits. Missouri utilized a five-run fourth inning to clinch the victory.
Missouri took an early lead in the first inning when Tyler Macon scored on a groundout after reaching base on a fielding error, making it 1-0.
In the third inning, the Blue & Gold evened the score.
Aedan Forde (Massapequa Park, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) singled and advanced to second on a walk to
Jake Russo (Yaphank, N.Y./Bellport) before
Shaun Callahan's (Newington, Conn./Newington) RBI single brought Forde home, tying the game at 1-1. Callahan's standout performance included matching a career high with three hits.
Missouri responded with a five-run surge in the fourth inning. Cameron Benson scored on a sacrifice fly, followed by a two-RBI triple from Isaiah Frost. RBIs from Tyler Macon and Jase Woita extended Missouri's lead to 6-1.
Missouri added a run in the fifth when Chris Patterson doubled and scored on Eric Maisonet's RBI single, pushing the score to 7-1.
New Haven narrowed the gap with a run in the sixth as Callahan scored from third on a wild pitch, making it 7-2. However, Missouri answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning, extending their lead to 9-2.
Missouri sealed the game in the seventh with three additional runs, highlighted by a two-RBI single from Pierre Seals, finishing the inning with a 12-2 lead.
Myles McDermott (Braintree, Mass./Arch Bishop Williams) started for New Haven, pitching 3 2/3 innings with four hits allowed and six unearned runs. He recorded two strikeouts and issued two walks over his 68-pitch outing.
