CHICAGO, Ill. – New Haven Women's Basketball continued its NEC schedule with a matchup in the Windy City on Saturday. The Chicago State Cougars held on in the final seconds to defeat New Haven 60-57.
A 22-point second quarter sent New Haven into the halftime break ahead 31-28. For the game,
Aniya McDonald-Perry (Middletown, Conn./Putnam Science Academy) posted another double-double, her ninth of the season. Freshman
Teaira Kelley (Monroe, Ga./Walnut Grove) set career highs in minutes (36), rebounds (nine), assists (five), and posted New Haven's second-highest scoring total with 11 points.
Addisen Sulikowski (Saco, ME/Thornton Academy) also finished with nine points and nine rebounds in the loss.
The Cougars capitalized on New Haven mistakes throughout the game, scoring 21 points off Charger turnovers. The Cougars bench also chipped in 22 points compared to one from New Haven's bench. The Blue & Gold held an edge in points in the paint, as it outscored the Cougars 38-32 in the lane.
New Haven will visit LIU on Saturday, Feb. 14. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 p.m.
