Seven Points for Seleny in Loss at Wagner

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — New Haven Lacrosse (2-4, 1-1 NEC) dropped a 14-9 decision to Wagner College (1-6, 2-0 NEC) on Saturday at Hameline Field. The Chargers saw highlights with two player-up goals in the third quarter but couldn't overcome Wagner's steady lead. Despite launching 15 shots on goal, New Haven faced a stalwart defense from the Seahawks, who held their advantage throughout the game.

Wagner took an early lead with a goal by Kristina Pisano at 14:25 in the first quarter. The Chargers attempted to counter with a draw control and ground ball pickup by Caitlin Seleny (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton), but a turnover by Helena Dunwoody (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich) allowed Wagner's Shealin Saracino to score at 10:28. New Haven closed the gap with a free position goal by Sophia Minnion (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) at 7:46. However, after a shot hit the post, Pisano added another for Wagner, ending the first quarter 3-1 in their favor.

In the second quarter, New Haven tied the game briefly when Taryn Murphy (Bohemia, N.Y./Connetquot) scored at 13:21, assisted by Seleny. Dunwoody kept the Chargers in the contest with a goal at 10:58, again with Seleny assisting. Seleny scored at 6:29, assisted by Sophia Devaney (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial), following a turnover caused by Summer Castiglione (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial). Despite these efforts, Wagner maintained control, leading 8-4 at halftime.

The third quarter saw New Haven capitalize on a Wagner penalty when Murphy scored a player-up goal at 6:34, assisted by Seleny. Devaney further closed the gap with another player-up goal at 2:38, again assisted by Seleny. Wagner, however, retained their lead, finishing the quarter ahead 10-6.

In the final quarter, New Haven pushed offensively with Murphy scoring at 11:41, assisted by Seleny, and Seleny adding another goal soon after. Wagner responded with two goals, including a player-up goal by Sydney Mulroony at 4:10. Minnion scored with 30 seconds left, but Wagner secured a 14-9 victory.
