New Haven Picks up Mid-Week Win

WEST HAVEN, Conn. — New Haven Baseball (4-23, 4-11) secured a commanding 12-4 victory over Bridgeport (13-21, 9-15) on Wednesday at Frank Vieira Field.

The Chargers tallied 12 runs on 10 hits, including a home run, and drew 11 walks, while Bridgeport managed four runs on five hits. This performance marked the third consecutive game where New Haven achieved at least 12 runs and 10 hits, showcasing their offensive prowess.

New Haven secured a decisive win with a series of strong innings. In the first inning, Jake Russo (Yaphank, N.Y./Bellport) hit a two-run homer, bringing in Nick Ungania (Mineola, N.Y./Chaminade), who had reached base on a walk and stolen second, giving New Haven an early 2-0 lead. The second inning saw further success as EJ Ettinger (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) scored on a single by Cam McGugan (Mystic, Conn./Fitch), followed by Aedan Forde (Massapequa Park, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) stealing home. Shaun Callahan's (Newington, Conn./Newington) walk brought McGugan home, extending the lead to 5-0 through two innings.

Bridgeport responded in the third with a home run by Liam O'Neal and an RBI single by Anthony Armenia, cutting the deficit to 5-2. However, New Haven continued its momentum in the fourth inning, aided by a wild pitch that allowed Ungania to score, increasing the lead to 6-2. In the fifth inning, Joseph Frazzetta's (Howard Beach, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) double set the stage for McGugan's RBI single, putting New Haven ahead 7-2.

Russo doubled in the sixth inning and scored on Callahan's RBI single, pushing New Haven's lead to 8-2. Despite Bridgeport's two-run effort in the seventh inning, New Haven added two more runs in both the seventh and eighth innings. Bobby Herzman (Cheshire, Conn./HC Wilcox) scored on a wild pitch, and Russo's RBI single brought in Jaylin Manson (Newington, Conn./Newington) in the seventh. In the eighth, Clark Beattie (Glastonbury, Conn./Xavier) and Chase McNally (Methacton, Pa./Methacton) contributed with a single and a hit-by-pitch, respectively, leading to further runs scored on a sacrifice fly and a hit-by-pitch.

The game concluded with New Haven maintaining a solid 12-4 victory over Bridgeport.
