PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – New Haven Women's Golf traveled to the City of Brotherly Love, where freshman
Gabriela Aya (Bogota, Colombia/Colegio Anglo Colobiano) took home first place in the Dr. Edwin B. Cottrell Invitational tournament.
Aya's tournament-winning score of +7 was powered by an Even score in the second round on Tuesday. Following the first round, Aya sat fourth, but managed to climb back up with the best second-round score in the tournament. Her victory lap of an 18th hole in the second round was capped off with an eagle, putting an exclamation mark on the day.
Fellow Charger,
Ella Hammond-Baveystock (Crowthorne, United Kingdom/Wellington College), finished tied for fifth in the tournament, with an overall score of +18. Hammond-Baveystock shot +10 for the first round and shaved off two strokes in the second, enough to break the top five.
As a team, New Haven finished second out of six, with a team score of +72. The Blue & Gold will conclude their spring season with the NEC Championships in Ellicott City, Maryland, beginning on Friday, Apr. 17.
