NEW HAVEN, Conn. — New Haven Baseball fell to Yale 20-0 at Bush '48 Field on Wednesday.
In the first inning, Yale capitalized on a walk and an error to score two runs. New Haven was unable to respond, leaving the score at 2-0 after one inning. Yale added another run in the second inning, utilizing singles and a walk to expand its lead to 3-0.
The third inning proved pivotal as Yale erupted for seven runs. Key plays included an RBI single by Chace Chaplin and multiple hit-by-pitches that brought in runs, extending the lead to 10-0 after three innings. Yale continued its offensive surge in the fourth inning, scoring three more runs. A sacrifice fly from Chris DiPrima and a groundout that brought in another run left Yale ahead 13-0.
In the fifth inning, Yale further widened the gap with a seven-run frame. Garrett Larsen's two-RBI single and Colin Sloan's two-RBI double were highlights, bringing the score to 20-0. New Haven's offense struggled throughout the game, managing only a few hits, including a single by Matthew McIntire in the third inning and
Joseph Frazzetta's (Howard Beach, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) hit in the seventh inning. The game concluded with a final score of Yale 20, New Haven 0.
Justin Eckrote (Berlin, Conn./Berlin) started the game for the Blue & Gold, pitching one inning with one earned run and striking out one while allowing one hit and one walk.
Mason Glickman (Windsor, Conn./Windsor) followed, also pitching one inning, giving up one earned run on two hits and one walk.
Jesse Kostulias (Mineola, N.Y./Mineola) struggled in his 2/3 of an inning, allowing seven earned runs on one hit, three walks, and three hit batters.
Blake Beattie (Glastonbury, Conn./Xavier) and Jace Vanvalkneburg combined for a challenging outing, with Beattie not recording an out in his 1/3 inning and Vanvalkneburg allowing three earned runs in his full inning.
Robert Synodi (Hebron, C.T./RHAM) and
James Reilly (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) faced similar difficulties, with Synodi giving up six earned runs and Reilly one earned run. Kaleb Martinek closed the game with 2/3 of an inning, allowing one hit and striking out one.
Joseph Frazzetta (Howard Beach, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) recorded two hits in his appearance, contributing to New Haven's offensive efforts.
Shaun Callahan (Newington, Conn./Newington) showcased his speed with a stolen base and also drew a walk to reach base. On the mound,
