McIntire Ties All-Time Home Run Record as New Haven Visits Fairfield on Tuesday Afternoon

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — New Haven Baseball (11-32) fell short in a high-scoring contest against Fairfield (25-20), losing 13-11 on Tuesday. Matt McIntire's (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) fourth-inning home run, the 29th of his career, tied him for the all-time program lead.

Fairfield jumped to an early lead in the first inning, highlighted by Matt Bucciero's three-run homer, adding another run with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0. In the third inning, Fairfield extended its advantage with a Ryan Paine three-run homer, capping a four-run inning for an 8-0 lead.

New Haven responded in the fourth when Matthew McIntire hit a record-tying two-run homer, bringing the score to 8-2. Fairfield countered with five runs, including a three-run homer by Jake Haarde, pushing its lead to 13-2.

New Haven rallied in the sixth, scoring five runs. Jake Russo's (Yaphank, N.Y./Bellport) walk and Joseph Frazzetta's (Howard Beach, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) single set up McIntire's RBI single. Clark Beattie (Glastonbury, Conn./Xavier) and EJ Ettinger (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) both walked, with Ettinger earning an RBI. Aedan Forde's (Massapequa Park, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) sacrifice fly and Michael Christian's RBI groundout contributed to the scoring, cutting Fairfield's lead to 13-7.

In the ninth, New Haven mounted a comeback attempt. Michael Christian and Nick Ungania (Mineola, N.Y./Chaminade) walked, loading the bases for Russo, who delivered an RBI single. Frazzetta grounded out, scoring another run. Beattie doubled to drive in two more runs, recording a season-high total of two runs batted in and narrowing the gap to 13-11, but the rally fell short.

Fairfield secured the 13-11 victory over New Haven Baseball.

Myles McDermott (Braintree, Mass./Arch Bishop Williams) started the game for New Haven, pitching three innings and allowing eight earned runs on seven hits, including two home runs, while striking out two batters and walking two. Blake Beattie (Glastonbury, Conn./Xavier) relieved McDermott, facing control issues as he issued five walks in just 2/3 inning, allowing five earned runs on two hits. Justin Eckrote (Berlin, Conn./Berlin) provided some stability from the mound, pitching 2 1/3 innings and giving up three hits with one strikeout. Robert Synodi (Hebron, C.T./RHAM) and Jesse Kostulias (Mineola, N.Y./Mineola) each contributed an inning, with Synodi allowing one hit and Kostulias striking out one and permitting one hit in his appearance.

McIntire finished with two hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs while scoring twice. Frazzetta recorded one hit, scored two runs, and added an RBI. Russo walked twice, scored two runs, and contributed an RBI. Beattie collected two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs as well.

In their next game, New Haven will host the University of Maryland Eastern Shore at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 14, at Frank Vieira Field in West Haven, Conn.
