New Haven falls to Brown 2-0

BOX SCORE PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The New Haven men's soccer team (0-3-0) was defeated 2-0 by Brown University (1-0-0) on Friday night at Stevenson-Pincince Field. The Chargers' defense recorded four saves in the first half but conceded two goals in the second.

The first period began with New Haven establishing a solid defensive presence. Garrett Smith (Gorham, Maine/Bridgton Academy) stood out in goal, recording multiple saves, including a critical stop against a shot by Carlo Brown in the sixth minute. The Chargers created opportunities through corner kicks and strikes, with Pol Bota and Darsein Gabriel (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) attempting shots on goal. Despite these efforts, the period concluded without any score, maintaining a 0-0 deadlock at halftime.

The second period began with New Haven pushing forward, indicated by an early corner kick at 47:17. Salvador Fernandes (Lisbon, Portugal/Lycee Français Charles Le Pierre) took a promising shot on goal, but it was saved by Brown's goalkeeper, Max Pfaffman. Despite the Chargers' efforts, Brown scored first in the 52nd minute, with Sawyer Turiace finding the net.

New Haven continued to search for an equalizer, with Renford Morgan (Kingston, Jamaica/Jamaica College) and Ali Taleb (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) both attempting shots that were narrowly missed or saved. However, Brown extended its lead with a goal from Lorenzo Amaral in the 84th minute, assisted by Carter Smith and Donovan Mark. As the period closed, New Haven created several opportunities, including a shot by Trevor Pegg (Darien, Conn./Darien), but was unable to convert. The game ended with Brown leading 2-0.

Garrett Smith (Gorham, Maine/Bridgton Academy) recorded four saves during the match. Taleb contributed with two shots on goal, showing his offensive presence. Fernandes added to the attack with one shot on goal. Pegg also tested the defense with two shots.

Looking ahead, New Haven will host Quinnipiac University on Wednesday, Sept. 2, at Kathy Zolad Stadium in West Haven, Connecticut. The game is set to begin at 6 p.m. ET.
