WEST HAVEN, Conn. — New Haven Field Hockey collected its first win of the season, beating STAC 4-0.
New Haven started the period with Raegan Kline at goalkeeper. The team exerted pressure early, earning a penalty corner at 2:44, which led to a series of shots by
Lauren Schoonmaker (High Falls, N.Y.), though none found the net initially. At 7:06, New Haven broke through when
Abbie Volfman (Clarksburg, Md./Clarksburg) scored the first goal, assisted by
Jalia Cooper (Millville, N.J./Saint Joseph Academy), to give the home team a 1-0 advantage. Despite a subsequent shot by Volfman hitting the post, New Haven held the lead at the end of the first quarter. St. Thomas Aquinas, with Evelyn McEwen in goal, managed several saves but could not equalize before the quarter concluded.
New Haven extended its lead to 2-0 in the second quarter with a goal by
Jalia Cooper (Millville, N.J./Saint Joseph Academy), assisted by
Emma Beaujouan (Concord, N.H./Concord), at the 22:48 mark. The quarter featured aggressive play from the Chargers, resulting in multiple fouls but also several shot attempts. Schoonmaker had notable opportunities, including a saved shot at 19:16 and a blocked attempt at 20:50. Despite fouls from both teams, New Haven maintained its defensive pressure, preventing St. Thomas Aquinas from scoring.
New Haven maintained offensive pressure throughout the third quarter, capitalizing on multiple penalty corners. Despite several wide shots and a save by St. Thomas Aquinas' Evelyn McEwen, New Haven broke through with a goal at 40:49.
Taylor Amstutz (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) scored with an assist from Schoonmaker and
Morgan Harrington (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East), extending the lead to 3-0. The quarter concluded with New Haven controlling the pace despite numerous fouls on both sides.

The home team maintained its momentum, generating multiple scoring opportunities, but St. Thomas Aquinas goalkeeper Evelyn McEwen made key saves, including stops on shots by Schoonmaker and Cooper. Despite a flurry of fouls from both teams, New Haven's defense remained solid to preserve the shutout. The match concluded with New Haven securing a decisive 4-0 victory.
