Villanova Blanks New Haven

VILLANOVA, Pa. — The New Haven field hockey team lost to Villanova 10-0 on Sunday. The Chargers recorded three shots, one on goal, and seven saves while facing 43 shots on the road.

Villanova applied pressure early, with a shot wide at 1:09 before Colleen Finnan scored at 1:33 and Aimee Largoza added another goal at 2:16, making it 2-0. Raegan Kline made a save on Maeve Boston at 4:05, but Villanova continued to generate penalty corners and shots through the middle of the quarter. Adie Minnella scored at 10:09 off an Ava Borkowski assist to extend the lead to 3-0, and Kline added another save before Villanova carried that margin through the end of the first quarter.

Kline stopped Villanova shots from Aimee Largoza at 17:18 and Maeve Boston at 18:02. Villanova scored the quarter's first goal at 20:22 when Ava Borkowski finished with an assist from Erin Mitchell, increasing the lead to 4-0. Julia Stewart (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) provided a defensive save on a Finnan shot, and an Erin Mitchell attempt was blocked at 20:28. Villanova added another goal at 21:31 as Carey Werley scored off assists from Borkowski and Molly Zimmerman, making it 5-0. Villanova maintained pressure with two Molly Zimmerman penalty corners at 27:17 and 27:26, and after blocked and wide chances from Gemma Lysaght, Katharina Balks scored from Aimee Largoza at 27:45 to move the score to 6-0. Kline made one more save on Shannon Arber at 29:09 before the quarter ended with the Chargers trailing 6-0.

The Chargers created an early look when Taylor Amstutz (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) had a shot blocked and earned a penalty corner at 31:28. Villanova increased the score to 7-0 at 33:27, with Gemma Lysaght scoring off assists from Maeve Boston and Esmee de Lange after back-to-back penalty corners. Kline later made a save on Allysen Whitehead during another Villanova penalty corner sequence, alongside blocked shots from Evangeline Minnella, Ava Borkowski, and Colleen Finnan. Aimee Largoza scored from Jane Bresnahan at 44:06 to make it 8-0, and Amstutz sent a shot wide at 44:25 before the quarter ended.

Villanova extended its lead in the fourth quarter when Shannon Arber scored at 47:19 off assists from Evangeline Minnella and Gemma Lysaght, making it 9-0. The Chargers put a shot on goal at 53:14 through Hailey Sullivan (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.), but Famke Poolman made the save. Villanova followed with a pressure sequence that included two blocked shots, a Kline save, and back-to-back penalty corners before Addie Froehlich scored at 54:30. Villanova closed out a 10-0 result.
