Alex Trezza

2013 will be the second season for Alex Trezza in the dugout at Vieira Field. Trezza is the hitting coach as top assistant on Chris Celano's staff.

Trezza brought 11 years of professional baseball experience and five years of prior coaching experience to New Haven. A Division I All-America honoree in 2001, he was a three-year member of Stony Brook’s baseball team. Among many accolades, he was named Freshman of The Year and New York State Baseball Conference Player of the Year. He holds several school records at Stony Brook, including single season home runs (23), career home runs (55) and career runs batted in (176). Following his college career, Trezza was drafted in the 18th round by the Detroit Tigers in 2001. He played four years in the Detroit organization and received the Most Improved Player Award in 2003. Following his stint with Detroit, Trezza signed as a free agent with the Rockies and participated in spring training. He also spent time with the Worcester Tornadoes and the North Shore Spirit of the Can-Am League, where he led the league in home runs with 19 during the 2006 season.

Prior to joining New Haven, Trezza spent the spring of 2011 as a hitting coach for Adelphi University in which he helped guide the Panthers to an NCAA Division II East Regional round appearance. Adelphi finished that season with a 36-14-2 overall record and 19-6-1 Northeast-10 mark, second best in the conference. They were statistically one of the strongest hitting teams in the NE-10.

He also served as an assistant coach at Anna Maria College, helping guide the program to a record 21 wins and to postseason berths in both the TCCC Conference and the ECAC Championships.
