Hired prior to the 2010 fall season, Chris Smith has continued to be a member of the UNH baseball team after spending five seasons on the Chargers pitching staff. The Shelton, Conn. native works with Assistant Coach Jeff Hourigan to develope the UNH pitchers.
In 2010, Smith led the Chargers on the mound with a 2.96 earned run average and a 6-3 record. He helped guide the Chargers to the NCAA East Region Championship and tossed one complete game shutout. As a junior, Smith was named to the All-NE-10 Conference Second Team after posting a 6-1 record and a team-best 2.00 earned run average. Pitched a complete game shutout against Bentley University in the NE-10 Baseball Championship tournament.
Smith suffered a season-ending injury in 2008 and 2007 after making just a few appearances both seasons. As a freshman, he was the Chargers top arm out of the bullpen, logging 32.2 innings in 16 appearances.
Smith graduated from New Haven prior to the 2010 season with a Bachelor's degree in Management of Sports Industries. He is currently persuing his Master's degree at UNH as well.
