    Graduate Assistant Baseball Coach

PJ Contreras recently completed his first season as the Chargers’ graduate assistant coach in 2020. Contreras was a four-year member of the Chargers from 2016-2019, serving as the team’s catcher and appearing in 134 games, including 129 starts during his career.

Contreras’ best season came as a junior in 2018, hitting .256 while setting career-highs with 27 RBI, 20 runs scored, eight doubles and four home runs. He also recorded 12 multi-hit games and a trio of three-hit performances, leading the Chargers to a berth in the NE10 Championship game and the semifinals of the NCAA East Region Tournament.

The Hauppauge, N.Y. native was a multi-time selection to the Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll. He graduated from the University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting with a cumulative GPA of 3.33, and is currently pursuing his MBA.
