Men's Basketball Suffers Loss to St. Rose

(02-17-10) WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The University of New Haven men's basketball lost 66-82 Wednesday night to the College of St. Rose at Charger Gymnasium. The Chargers fall to 4-20 overall and 4-16 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Golden Knights improve to 15-10, 12-8 in the NE-10.

New Haven opened the game with a 14-7 run, including a jumper by Kelvin Jackson at the 13:13 mark to give UNH the seven-point lead. Over the next six minutes, St. Rose would cut the UNH lead to one. Over the next four minutes the Golden Knights went on an 8-0 run to take a 30-26 lead with 3:20 left in the half. New Haven went on its own run in the final minutes and regained the lead by four after an 8-0 run. A desperation half-court three-pointer went in at the buzzer and St. Rose trailed by just one, 34-33, at halftime.

St. Rose came out hot in the second half and immediately took an eight-point lead, just 3:27 into the half. UNH cut into the lead with help from Darryl Greene and Sean Harris, eventually regaining the lead off a Robert Jamerson jumper with 10:46 left in the second half. The Golden Knights would then pull away with a 14-0 run just minutes later. With a 12-point, 64-52, lead with 4:39 left in the half the Golden Knights had sealed the win. UNH could not get any closer than 12 down the stretch as St. Rose took the 82-66 victory.

St. Rose held a drastic 14-3 advantage in second chance points. The Golden Knights also registered 30 points off the bench and 30 points in the paint.

Four Chargers scored in double figures, Jamerson scored 17 points, Greene added 16 points, while Jackson and Harris scored 10.

The Chargers return to action on Saturday, February 20 when they host Pace University at Charger Gymnasium. Saturday is Senior Night for the Charger three seniors. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
