LANTANA, Fla. - The University of New Haven baseball team swept a doubleheader from Nyack College Saturday afternoon in its opening games of the 2010 Palm Beach Challenge. The Chargers took a convincing 21-3 victory in the first game, while adding an 11-4 win in the nightcap. With the two wins the Chargers improve to 5-2 on the season, Nyack falls to 1-6 with the two losses.
Game One
New Haven had a convincing 21-3 victory in the opening game of its spring break trip.
Tom Rombilus (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) recorded three hits with six RBI's to lead the Chargers.
Ryan Brockett (Guilford, Conn./Guilford ) added four hits,
Cory Carr (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) tallied three hits and three RBI's, while freshman
Frank Peloso (Milford, Conn./Jonathan Law) added three hits, three runs and four RBI's. #T.J. Phelan
was the winning pitcher with eight innings pitched and nine strikeouts. (Portland, Maine/Deering)Frank Vilacha# pitched the final inning and struck out two.
Game Two
The Chargers had another big win with an 11-4 win in the second game Saturday.
Taylor Candage (Portland, Maine/Deering) pitched 4 2/3 innings for the win for UNH. Brockett registered another two hits and three RBI's in the nightcap.
Kyle Pettoruto (Andover, Mass./St. John's Prep ) added three RBI's, while
Joe Romanelli (Baldwin, N.Y./Holy Trinity) had two hits and three runs scored.
The Chargers take on St. Thomas Aquinas in their next three games in Florida. Sunday's and Monday's games are scheduled for 10 a.m. start times.
