LANTANA, Fla. - The University of New Haven baseball team defeated St. Thomas Aquinas College 2-0 Sunday morning in the first of three consecutive games against the Spartans. With the win the Chargers improve to 6-2 on the season, while the Spartans fall to 2-7 overall.
Alex Smith (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) led the Chargers on the mound in the win. He threw seven scoreless innings in which he struck out six batters and allowed just five hits.
Mitch Rossi (Bristol, Conn./Bristol Central) pitched the final two innings and threw three strikeouts.
The Chargers winning hit came in the first inning when
Cory Carr (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) hit a two-RBI single. The two runs was all UNH would need as they grabbed their third win in the Sunshine State.
The Chargers play the second game of the three-game series against the Spartans tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.
