Baseball Wins Fifth Straight in 8-3 Win Over Spartans

LANTANA, Fla. - The University of New Haven baseball team defeated St. Thomas Aquinas College 8-3 Monday morning in their fifth straight win of the 2010 pre-conference season. The Chargers improve to 7-2 on the season, while the Spartans fall to 2-8.

Senior Chris Smith (Shelton, Conn./Emmett O'Brien Tech.) pitched seven strong innings to earn the win for the Chargers. He allowed no earned runs and only four hits, while throwing seven strikeouts.

Kyle Donnelly (Oneonta, N.Y./Oneonta) and  Frank Peloso (Milford, Conn./Jonathan Law) each had two hits, while Cory Carr (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) led the team with two RBI's. Lead-off hitter Ryan Brockett (Guilford, Conn./Guilford ) added a hit and two stolen bases for UNH.

New Haven returns to action tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m. in its last game of a three game series against the Spartans. The Chargers take on Molloy College on Wednesday at Lynn University.
