WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The University of New Haven baseball team defeated Pace University 3-1 Thursday afternoon at Frank Vieira Field in a Northeast-10 Conference match. With the win UNH improves to 16-5 overall and 5-3 in the Northeast-10, while the Setters fall to 6-15 overall and 2-7 in conference play.

After New Haven left a number of runners on base in the first few innings, they managed to even the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning when Jack Heary (Portland, Maine/Deering) hit an RBI single to left field. Freshman Taylor Candage (Portland, Maine/Deering) scored from third base and helped the Chargers even the score after going down 1-0 in the top of the fourth.

Tom Rombilus (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) was the first to get on base for UNH with a one-out single. Shane O'Connell immediately added a single to the left side which put the Chargers' go-ahead run on third base. Candage then gave UNH a two-run cushion with the Chargers third RBI of the game.

Peck set the stage for three shutout innings from Chris Smith (Shelton, Conn./Emmett O'Brien Tech.), who earned the win.
