Game One- UNH 3, St. Anselm 0
Game Two- UNH 10, St. Anselm 2

MANCHESTER, N.H. - With a two-game sweep of Saint Anselm College on Saturday afternoon, the University of New Haven softball team clinched the Northeast-10 regular season title outright. The Chargers defeated the Hawks 3-0 in game one, to guarantee themselves at least a share of the title, while a 10-2 score in favor of UNH in the nightcap secured the Chargers sole possession. The Chargers improve to 36-4 overall and 24-2 in the NE-10, while the Hawks fall to 18-24 overall and 11-17 in the conference. With the wins, UNH will also have the pleasure of hosting the 2010 NE-10 Softball Championships May 7-9.

Game One
After a scoreless first inning for both teams, the Chargers brought two in in the top of the second. Breanne Gleason (Bristol, Conn./Bristol Central ) led the inning off with a single down the left field line. Walter immediately brought her in with a triple to the right field. Shannon Angehr (Levittown, N.Y./Division Avenue )'s sacrifice fly to center field allowed Walter to take home for the 2-0 lead.

The Chargers' third and final run of the game came in the fourth inning. Gleason once again started the inning with a lead-off single. Walter singled to center field to advance Gleason to second. After Allison Vaughn laid down a sacrifice bunt to allow Gleason and Walter to advance a base, Angehr once again brought in a run with a sacrifice fly to center.

The Charger offense was led by Gleason who was 3-for-3 with two runs. Gleason also led on the mound. She collected the complete game shutout with a career-high 15 strike outs, allowing a single hit and just two walks.

Game Two
The Charger bats came alive in the nightcap with 14 hits through the five innings.

After the two teams went run-for-run in the opening inning, each driving in two runs apiece,  it was the visiting Chargers that controlled the rest of the game.

New Haven relied on two big innings to force the run-rule and end the game in five. In the fourth inning, the Chargers collected five runs on six hits. The highlight of the inning included Nicole Downs (Seymour, Conn./Seymour) first of two doubles. Gleason followed that with an RBI double of her own.

With the lead 7-2 the Chargers capped the game off with three runs on three hits. Downs added her second RBI double in the final inning.

Downs led UNH with four hits and four RBI, while Chelsea Harold (Oxford, Conn./Seymour ) collected three hits, three runs, two stolen bases and a RBI.

Gleason tallied her 31st win of the season, striking out nine while allowing just two hits and two walks.

The Chargers regular season will come to a close on Sunday with a doubleheader at Southern New Hampshire. First pitch is slated for noon in Manchester, N.H.
