ALBANY, N.Y. - The University of New Haven women's soccer team fell 3-2 Wednesday night to the nationally ranked No. 7 College of Saint Rose. The Chargers fell to 6-6 overall and 4-6 in the Northeast-10 Conference with the loss, while the Golden Knight improved to 12-0-1 overall and 9-0-1 in conference play.
Wednesday's game-winning goal came in the 89th minute, just one-minute and 37-seconds before overtime would have started. The goal was scored by Nicola D'Errico who netter her first of the year into the top leftside of the net.
The Chargers were the first to fall behind in the game as well. The Golden Knights scored the game's first goal in the 8th minute when they netted a shot which was fired from 30-yards out. New Haven would answer just 11-minutes later as
Brenna Weidman (Holliston, Mass./Holliston / Utica College) found
Amber Simms (Southport, England/Southport) in space who netted her fifth of the year. Weidman fead a through ball to Simms on the right side of the field and the freshman buried a shot in the top of the Saint Rose net, evening the score at 1-1.
Saint Rose would regain the lead in the 33rd minute when another crossing pass found a Golden Knights foot and eventually the back of the UNH net. However, the Chargers once again evened the score. In the 37th minute
Lucy Francisco (Lawrence, Mass./Lawrence ) attempted a corner kick and as it sailed into the box, a Saint Rose defender deflected the ball into their own net, crediting the Chargers' with an own goal.
In the closing minutes of the first half, both teams recorded scoring chances, but the score stay tied at 2-2 into halftime.
After four goals in the first half, both teams were held scoreless through the first 44 minutes of the second half. The Chargers recorded one shot on goal, while
Kim Taylor (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) made three saves in goal for the Chargers. In the 89th minute, Saint Rose then scored the game-winner, handing UNH it's sixth loss of the season.
Simms added two shots on goal, while the Chargers were out-shot 27-8 in the loss. Taylor made nine saves in the net for New Haven as well.
New Haven will return to action on Sunday, October 16 when it hosts Stonehill College at Kayo Field. Sunday is Senior Day for the Chargers who will kickoff at 1 p.m. against the Skyhawks. For complete coverage, including live video and statistics, visit
