Baseball Suffers 6-1 Loss to Molloy

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The University of New Haven baseball team dropped a non-conference game 6-1 to Molloy College Thursday afternoon at Lynn Universit in Florida. With the loss the Chargers fell to 8-3 on the season, while the Lions improved to 7-7.

With a solo homerun from junior Ryan Brockett, New Haven jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning. Both teams could not put more runs on the board until the fourth inning when the Lions connected a couple of walks and a hit to even the score at 1-1.

Molloy held the Chargers scoreless for the remainder of the game, while added one run in the top of the sixth inning to take the lead. Molloy took a two point lead one inning later and added three more in the top of the final inning to secure the five-run victory.

UNH left runners on base in the sixth, seventh and ninth innings, but could not muster a run.

Four different Chargers pitched in the outing, while Eric Peck suffered the loss on the mound. He pitched  two 2/3 innings and threw three strikeouts with one earned run. Brockett led the team with two hits with one run and one RBI. Stephen Clout was the only other Charger to record a hit in the outing.

The Chargers return to action on Friday, March 18 against Caldwell College. The game will be played in Lantana, Fla. at 12 p.m.
