Box Score (vs. Nyack)
Box Score (vs. Philadelphia)

MINNEOLA, Fla. - The University of New Haven softball team defeated Nyack College 5-0 and Philadelphia University 1-0 Thursday as part of the NTC Spring Games. With the two wins, the Chargers conclude the NTC Spring Games and improved to 9-2 on the season.

Game One

Pitchers Alana Wesche and Kelsey Malloy posed as a major problem for the Warriors offense in the first game of the twinbill. Wesche took the decision, allowed one hit over five innings of work and struck out three. Malloy was perfect in the final two innings and recorded one strike out.

The Chargers scored one run in the first, second and fourth innings and then added two more in the sixth. The game-winning run came off the bat of Christina Gelardi when she drove in Chelsea Harold on an RBI ground out. UNH totaled 11 hits in the contest, including a game-high three hits, two RBI and two runs scored from Allison Vaughan. Harold, Shannon Angehr and Amy Nepi combined to go 6-for-10 with three runs scored and two RBI.

Game Two
The second game of the day featured an absolute pitchers-dual between Wesche and junior Ali Schmidt of the Rams. Wesche was a tad better though, tossing a complete-game shutout for her fifth win of the season. She scattered three hits, walked one and struck out three of the 25 batters she faced. Schmidt allowed one run, four hits and struck out 10 of the 25 batters she faced in the losing effort.

The lone run for the Chargers came in the very first inning of action. Harold led off the game with a single and then moved to third on a pass-ball and a sacrifice bunt. Gelardi stepped into the batters’ box and laid down a bunt which pushed Harold across home plate for a 1-0 lead that they wouldn’t relinquish.

Harold collected two of the four hits, while Brandy Dianno and Courtney Garland finished with one apiece.

New Haven will return to action Tuesday, March 22 when they travel to Molloy College in Long Island. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
