OAKDALE, N.Y. - The University of New Haven softball team split two non-conference games with Molloy College on Tuesday evening at Dowling College. The Chargers edged the Lions in the first game by the final score of 8-7, but dropped a 3-0 decision in the nightcap. With the results, UNH moved to 10-3 on the season, while the Lions went to 11-5.

Game One
In the first game of the doubleheader, the Chargers grasped a commanding 8-3 advantage, behind the bats of Chelsea Harold, Christina Gelardi and Shannon Angehr. Harold finished 4-for-4 with three runs scored, Gelardi went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI and Angehr added two RBI and a run scored. The big blow came in the fifth inning when the Chargers put four runs on the board.

The Lions made a late rally in the bottom of the seventh inning, but UNH was able to withstand the comeback and prevail with an 8-7 victory. Pitcher Alana Wesche started and won the game for the Chargers.

Game Two
The nightcap of the twinbill featured a shortened game due to darkness. Katie Kraus of Molloy College delivered a two-run double in the second frame, leaving the home team with a 2-0 lead. The Lions added another in the third inning and then defensively kept the Chargers off of the scoreboard. After a scoreless top of the fifth inning, the game was called by the umpires, granting the Lions a 3-0 win and a doubleheader split.

Starting pitcher Micah Stonesifer tossed all four innings for New Haven in the losing effort. She allowed three runs on six hits and struck out four of the 18 batters she faced. Offensively, Harold and Allison Vaughan each collected a hit in the game.

The Chargers return to the field on Thursday, March 24 with another non-conference showdown. UNH will take on NYIT in Old Westbury, N.Y. at 3 p.m.
