Game One
The first game of the afternoon featured a low scoring affair that would need extra innings to determine a winner. Le Moyne registered the first run of the contest in the fifth inning of play; however the Chargers were quick to respond in the sixth. Lindsay Couturior recorded an RBI single to bring Amy Nepi around to score the game-tying run.
After a scoreless seventh inning, the game would go to extra innings where the Dolphins collected two runs on four hits and two errors. The Chargers rallied in the bottom of the frame but failed to score, granting Le Moyne its first NE-10 triumph.
Alana Wesche pitched well for UNH, as she tossed 7.2 innings, allowed three runs on 11 hits and struck out six batters. Micah Stonesifer collected the last out defensively for the Chargers. Couturior, Kerri Tricinelli and Allison Vaughan all tallied two hits in the losing effort.
Game Two
Contrary to the first game, the back end of the twinbill featured a high scoring affair. Le Moyne opened the scoring summary in the third inning of play on a homerun by Leah Ford, but this time the Chargers answered emphatically.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, New Haven exploded for 10 runs on five hits and an error. Couturior, Courtney Garland, Brook Fisher, Lucy Francisco and Chelsea Harold combined to drive in the first five runs, followed by a three-run double from Christina Gelardi. Couturior capped off the rally with a two-run shot that cleared the left field fence for a 10-1 advantage.
Stonesifer was tremendous, allowing the one run over five innings of work. She scattered nine hits and fanned nine in her sixth win of the campaign.
The Chargers return to action on Thursday, March 31 against Caldwell College. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the UNH Softball Field.
