Chargers Earn Fourth Win Against Molloy, 5-2

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The University of New Haven baseball team defeated Molloy College 5-2 Monday morning in Boca Raton, Florida at a game played at Lynn University. The Chargers improved to 4-2 on the season with the win. The Lions dropped to 5-9 on the year.

With one out in the bottom of the second inning, Brendon Buckley (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) hit his second collegiate homerun when he gave the Chargers a 1-0 lead. Three innings later, UNH scored another three runs off three hits and one Molloy error. Freshman Brendon O'Reilly drove in a run with a double, while scoring off an error later in the inning. Cory Carr (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) also scored off a wild pitch, giving UNH a 4-0 lead after five innings.

Starting pitcher Mike Aquilino (West Haven, Conn./West Haven) threw another scoreless sixth inning to keep the Chargers ahead by four heading into the seventh. The Lions then added two runs in the seventh inning off five hits. Eric Peck (East Hampton, Conn./East Hampton) managed to force the third out on the mound with the bases loaded and the Chargers headed to the bottom of the seventh. Andrew Johnson (Branford, Conn./Branford / Wheaton) added another solo homerun to open the seventh inning, the first of his collegiate career, and gave the Chargers their final run.

Molloy registered just two base runners in the final two innings and New Haven cruised to a 5-2 victory, their third of the season over Molloy.

 New Haven's Mike Aquilino (West Haven, Conn./West Haven) pitched six scoreless innings for the victory. He struck out five and walked just two. Eric Peck (East Hampton, Conn./East Hampton) and Peter Jay (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) both made impressive appearances as well. Jay earned the save in one inning of work.

At the plate, Andrew Johnson (Branford, Conn./Branford / Wheaton) led the Chargers with two hits, including a homerun, two runs and one RBI. Brendon Buckley (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) added one hit, one RBI and one run with a homerun, while Brendon O'Reilly added one hit, one RBI and one run as well. Ryan Brockett (Guilford, Conn./Guilford ) went 2-for-4 at the dish with one stolen base.
