Seventh-Seed Chargers Continue Play in NE-10 Tournament

WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The seventh seeded University of New Haven softball team continues its quest for the 2012 Northeast-10 Conference Championship this weekend in the double elimination portion of the tournament. The Chargers travel to the campus of Southern Connecticut State University on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

New Haven's first game of the weekend will take place on Friday, April 27 at 12:30 p.m. against third seed Assumption College. The winner will advance to Saturday's 1 p.m. game against the winner of top seed Southern Connecticut State University and fourth seed Le Moyne College. The loser of Friday's game will play immediate following the game, at 3 p.m., against the loser of Southern Connecticut Stae University and Le Moyne College.

The double elimination tournament continues with game nine on Saturday, April 28 at 4 p.m., with the winner advancing to the championship series. The 2012 NE-10 Softball Champions will be crowned on Sunday, April 29 starting at 11 a.m. Find the complete schedule below.

With a 28-19 overall record, the Chargers are the lowest seed remaining, but they've rattled off five consecutive victories and are the hottest team in the conference. Led by senior outfielder Shannon Angehr (Levittown, N.Y./Division Avenue ), the Chargers upset second seed Adelphi University with a come-from-behind 5-4 win on Tuesday.

    Friday, April 27
        Game 5: No. 1 Southern Connecticut vs. No. 4 Le Moyne – 10:00 a.m.
        Game 6: No. 7 New Haven vs. No. 3 Assumption – 12:30 p.m.
        Game 7: Game 5 loser vs. Game 6 loser – 3:00 p.m.
    Saturday, April 28
        Game 8: Game 5 winner vs. Game 6 winner – 1:00 p.m.
        Game 9: Game 7 winner vs. Game 8 loser – 4:00 p.m.
    Sunday, April 29
        Game 10: Game 9 winner vs. Game 8 winner – 11:00 a.m.
        Game 11: If Necessary – 30 minutes after conclusion of Game 10
