Cannady Powers Chargers to Eighth Consecutive Win

BOX SCORE COLCHESTER, Vt. – Amber Cannady (Yonkers, N.Y./Charles E. Gorton) posted a double-double with 19 kills and 12 blocks to lead the University of New Haven women's volleyball team to a Northeast-10 win at Saint Michael's on Friday evening. The Chargers took the match by set scores of 25-23, 25-15, 21-25 and 25-13.
 
With a 20-4 record, the Chargers have locked up the 35th 20-win season in 38 years as a varsity program. New Haven also improves to 11-0 in the Northeast-10 and can clinch at least a share of the conference regular-season title and the top seed in the 2013 NE-10 Championship with a win tomorrow at Saint Anselm.
 
Saint Michael's falls to 11-10 overall with a 3-8 conference mark.
 
Cannady hit .432 en route to her match high of 19 kills. Ashley Dalton (Helena, Mont./Capital / Northern Arizona University) added nine finishers and Kristen Lee (Colorado Springs, Colo./Liberty) slammed home seven. Kristy Atufunwa (Denver, Colo./Denver East) and Meghan Kennelly (Detroit, Mich./Eisenhower) each had six kills with three from Margo Meteyer (Madison, Wis./Madison West) and Kaulana Ane (Paia, Hawai'i/Kamehameha) with two. Hayley Wilson (Denver, Colo./Overland) had one kill to round out the offense.
 
Ane distributed 32 assists as the Chargers posted a cumulative .219 hitting percentage.
 
Defensively, Kea-Marie Olaso (Kailua, Hawai'i/Le Jardin Academy) shared the match high of 21 digs. Lee added 17 from the back row, and Annika Hacker (Bayreuth, Germany/Littleton (Colo.)) had 10. At the net, Cannady's 12 blocks fueled a season-best 17-block showing from the Chargers. Ane had a hand in six rejections and Dalton got a piece of five. The New Haven defensive effort limited Saint Michael's to a .108 hitting percentage.
 
Kelsey Flaherty and Lindsay Phenix each posted 10 kills for the Purple Knights. Jess McLeod handed out 37 assists, and Natalie Moore matched Olaso with 21 digs.
 
The Chargers return to the court tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Saint Anselm. New Haven concludes its three-match road swing on Tuesday at Southern Connecticut State before concluding the regular season with Senior Day at Charger Gymnasium against Southern New Hampshire on Friday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m.
