Chargers and Franklin Pierce Split Florida Doubleheader

BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2 BOCA RATON, Fla. – The University of New Haven baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Franklin Pierce on Sunday afternoon at Lynn University in Sarasota, Fla. The Chargers move to 5-3 following the split.
 
After the Ravens (9-7) won the opening game, 5-4, the Chargers took the night cap by a count of 2-1. Frank Vilacha (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) (2-0) earned the win with Peter Jay (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) picking up his third save of the spring. An RBI single by Stephen Clout (Bristol, Conn./Bristol Eastern) in the sixth inning was the difference in the one-run victory. Both ends of the doubleheader were seven-inning contests.

Offensively, Andrew Johnson (Branford, Conn./Branford / Wheaton) went 2-for-3 with a double and four RBI in the twin bill. Brendon Buckley (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) had two hits, including a double, and drove in a run.
