Game One
In a true pitching duel, the third game of the series was scoreless through seven innings.
Micah Stonesifer (Archer City, Texas/Archer City / Vernon College) did not allow a hit through the first five innings as the Chargers allowed just three base runners. Le Moyne's no-hitter was alive into the top of the fifth inning as UNH managed just three base runners in the first seven innings. Courtney Reed (Lower Burrell, Pa./Burrell) successfully tagged the Le Moyne runner at home on a fielder's choice to keep the shutout.
As the game went into extra innings, the Chargers capitalized in the top of the eighth. Reed earned a leadoff walk and
Brandy Dianno (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) put the game-winning run in scoring position with a bunt single.
Meghan Chamoff (Roslyn Heights, N.Y./Herricks) then advanced both with a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher. After
Christina Gelardi (Derby, Conn./Derby) was intentionally walked,
Jen Palase (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) laid down a perfect bunt single to squeeze in the game-winning run.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Dolphins
Nicole King (Front Royal, Va./Warren County) came in to pitch for the Chargers and earned the save. Le Moyne managed two hits and left two runners on base in the inning. Keri Tricinelli (Brick, N.J./Monsignor Donovan) added one for the Chargers with a sacrifice fly to right field. In the bottom half of the fourth, the Dolphins were sparked with a leadoff homerun and totaled four runs off four hits and one UNH error in the inning.
The remainder of the game went scoreless, except for New Haven in the top of the sixth. Couturier knocked a single up the middle to score Gelardi and give UNH a two-run advantage.
