BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2 WEST HAVEN, Conn. - With a complete game shutout from Micah Stonesifer (Archer City, Texas/Archer City / Vernon College) in game one and a no-hitter from Nicole King (Front Royal, Va./Warren County) in game two, the nationally ranked No. 24 University of New Haven softball team earned a pair of Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division shutout victories Saturday afternoon over the College of Saint Rose. The Chargers earned a 3-0 win in game one, while King's second no-hitter in the last seven days led UNH to a 7-0 victory in game two.

Game One
The opening game of the doubleheader went scoreless through the first three innings. After giving up a hit to the second batter, the Chargers and Stonesifer retired 11 straight batters through the top of the fourth inning. The Chargers took the lead in the bottom of the fourth with a one-out solo homerun from Jess Spivey (Holland, Pa./Council Rock). The sophomore hit her fourth homerun and drove in her 24th run of the season.

The Golden Knights stranded one on base in the top of the fifth, while the Chargers improved their lead in the bottom of the inning. Brooke Fisher (Erial, N.J./Camden Catholic) opened the inning with a single up the middle to get the UNH rally started. Keri Tricinelli (Brick, N.J./Monsignor Donovan) then drove in New Haven's second run with a sacrifice fly to right field. Lindsey Couturier (Dighton, Mass./Dighton Rehoboth Regional) followed with a single to right and Brandy Dianno (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) scored.

With a 3-0 lead, the Chargers cruised through the top of the sixth and seventh innings. The Golden Knights were retired in order and the Chargers won their 28th game of the season.

Stonesifer went the distance with her third complete game shutout of the season. She threw nine strikeouts, no walks and allowed just two hits. The senior now stands at 12-5 on the season with a 1.58 earned run average.

Offensively, both Spivey and Couturier went 1-for-3 with one RBI in game one. Spivey also scored one of the Chargers runs. Fisher also went 1-for-3 at the dish.

Game Two
Game two started off much like the first game, scoreless through the first two innings. In the top of the third, Saint Rose managed to put on runner on base with a walk, while the Chargers put their first run on the board in the bottom of the third. Sadie Redman (Bangor, Maine/Bangor) led off with a walk. She then advanced to third with a stolen base and passed ball with no outs. Dianno then dropped a bunt right in front of home plate and earned an infield single. After Dianno stole second, Christina Gelardi (Derby, Conn./Derby) drove in the eventual game-winning run with a grounder to second base.

UNH retired the side in the top of the fourth, while Spivey led off the bottom of the inning with a hit by pitch. Two batters later, Lucy Francisco (Lawrence, Mass./Lawrence ) hit a two-run homer to put UNH ahead 3-0 after four.

King's pitching performance continued throughout the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, allowing just four base runners. Spivey drove in one run in the bottom of the fifth, while Courtney Reed (Lower Burrell, Pa./Burrell) and Gelardi both drove in runs in the bottom of the sixth to give UNH a 7-0 lead.

In the top of the seven, King struck out two of the final three batters to complete the shutout and no-hitter, her second of the season. The freshman threw seven strikeouts and improved to 9-5 on the season with the win.
