BOX SCORE BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - The University of New Haven softball team's run through the NCAA Division II East Region 1 Championship tournament came to an end Sunday evening in a 9-5 loss to Adlephi University. The Chargers rattled off two wins over Dominican and LIU Post earlier Sunday to advance to the regional championship game against the Panthers.
Lindsey Couturier (Dighton, Mass./Dighton Rehoboth Regional) went 2-for-4 with three RBI in the loss. The junior concluded the season with 51 total RBI, tying the program's single-season record with Nicole Downs who knocked in 51 in 2010.
Christina Gelardi (Derby, Conn./Derby) capped her outstanding career with one hit, two RBI and one run in two at-bats. She concluded the season with an amazing .649 on-base percentage and a .469 average.
Three different pitchers threw for UNH, in its third game of the day.
Micah Stonesifer (Archer City, Texas/Archer City / Vernon College) suffered the loss with five innings of work. She struckout four an allowed just two earned runs.
New Haven concludes its season with a 38-15 overall record and its second regional championship game in the last four years.
