King Tosses One-Hitter as Chargers Advance in NCAA East Region Tournament

BOX SCORE BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Freshman Nicole King (Front Royal, Va./Warren County) gave up just one hit and led the University of New Haven softball team to a 2-0 victory over Dominican College an elimination game in the NCAA Division II East Region 1 Championship tournament. With the win, the New Haven advances to take on LIU Post Sunday afternoon for a spot in the championship final series. First pitch in the game is set for 1 p.m. in Brookville.

Brooke Fisher (Erial, N.J./Camden Catholic) was the only Chargers to record a RBI, while going 1-for-2 at the plate. Christina Gelardi (Derby, Conn./Derby) scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the first inning, while Brandy Dianno (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) added an insurance run off Fisher’s RBI to right field later in the first.

King also fanned four in her 13th win of her rookie season.

New Haven improved to 37-14 on the season, while Dominican’s season concluded with a 32-22 record.
