WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven women's volleyball team picked up its fifth consecutive victory on Friday evening with a 3-1 win over visiting Saint Michael's.
Kristen Lee (Colorado Springs, Colo./Liberty) recorded a double-double in the Northeast-10 win at Charger Gymnasium.
Following the four-set triumph, the Chargers improve to 19-5 overall and 10-1 in Northeast-10 play. New Haven clinches a berth in the upcoming NE-10 Championship and remains in control of its own destiny for the tournament's top seed. Saint Michael's fall to 5-13 on the season with an 0-11 conference tally.
The Chargers took the match by set scores of 25-14, 23-25, 25-18 and 25-12.
Lee's seventh double-double of the fall consisted of a match-high 15 kills as well as 13 digs.
Margo Meteyer (Madison, Wis./Madison West) and
Kristy Atufunwa (Denver, Colo./Denver East) added 13 kills apiece and hit .478 and .429, respectively.
Lexis Peterson (Windsor, N.Y./Windsor Central) added seven kills,
Hayley Wilson (Denver, Colo./Overland) notched five and
Meghan Kennelly (Detroit, Mich./Eisenhower) sent home a pair of finishers.
Kaulana Ane (Paia, Hawai'i/Kamehameha) handed out 47 assists in addition to three kills of her own. Ane ran the New Haven offense to a .304 hitting percentage, including a sizzling .440 rate in the opening frame.

Kea-Marie Olaso (Kailua, Hawai'i/Le Jardin Academy) had a team-leading 20 digs from the libero spot.
Annika Hacker (Bayreuth, Germany/Littleton (Colo.)) added 10 digs, and Ane and Meteyer were both just one dig shy of double-doubles with nine apiece. At the net, Peterson had a hand in four of New Haven's six team blocks, with Wilson getting a piece of three Charger send-backs.
The Chargers scored eight points from the serving game, led by two aces apiece from Hacker and
Ashley Gomez (El Paso, Texas/Ysleta). Meteyer, Ane, Olaso and Lee each landed one winner for the Blue and Gold.
Tonight's match also marked the season debut of
Ashley Dalton (Helena, Mont./Capital / Northern Arizona University), who appeared in one set and picked up a pair of digs.
New Haven held Saint Michael's to a .086 hitting percentage, slowed by a .000 mark in both the third and fourth frames. Kelsey Flaherty and Candace Washington both had eight kills for the Purple Knights. Catie Weller distributed 31 assists, and Natalie Moore matched Olaso's output with 20 digs.
The Chargers return to the court tomorrow for a 1 p.m. visit from Saint Anselm. New Haven will celebrate Senior Day prior to the Northeast-10 match.
