Chargers Top Defending East Region Champion LIU Post, 3-1

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – In a rematch of last season's NCAA Division II East Region Championship Match, the University of New Haven women's volleyball team knocked off visiting LIU Post, 3-1, on Tuesday evening at Charger Gymnasium. Kaulana Ane (Paia, Hawai'i/Kamehameha) posted her sixth double-double of the season in the victory.
 
With their 11th consecutive win, the Chargers improve to 11-4. LIU Post drops its fourth straight match to fall to 8-10. New Haven took the match by set scores of 25-19, 25-22, 19-25 and 25-22.
 
In addition to distributing 35 assists from the setter spot, Ane had a career-high 11 kills on .563 hitting (11-2-16). Kristy Atufunwa (Denver, Colo./Denver East) added 13 finishers, and Kristen Lee (Colorado Springs, Colo./Liberty) had eight. Lexis Peterson (Windsor, N.Y./Windsor Central) posted seven kills, Margo Meteyer (Madison, Wis./Madison West) had five, and Hayley Wilson (Denver, Colo./Overland), Meghan Kennelly (Detroit, Mich./Eisenhower) and Devin Smith (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush) each had two. Rounding out the offense were Damianis Eusebio (Miramar, Fla./University School) and Meagan Anderson (Palm Springs, Calif./Palm Springs) with one kills apiece. Collectively, the Chargers hit .161 in the match.
 
Defensively, Kea-Marie Olaso (Kailua, Hawai'i/Le Jardin Academy) led all players with 21 digs, and Annika Hacker (Bayreuth, Germany/Littleton (Colo.)) contributed 14 from the back row to go along with three service aces. Lee also reached double figures with 10 digs.
 
At the net, Atufunwa had a hand in two of the Chargers' three blocks.
 
Danielle Valenza led LIU Post with 13 kills. Monica Amador dished out 30 assists, and Rachel Ringor guided the back row with 16 digs. Heather Adams and Heather Ball each contributed up front with six blocks apiece.
 
The Chargers return to action this Thursday, Oct. 9 with a non-conference visit to NYIT. Northeast-10 play resumes on Saturday, Oct. 11 at Le Moyne.
