Chargers Drop Series Finale to Le Moyne, 5-2

BOX SCORE WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The University of New Haven softball team dropped a crucial Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division game Sunday afternoon against the visiting Le Moyne Dolphins. The Chargers fall to 22-11 overall and 13-7 in the conference, while the Dolphins improve to 20-11 and 11-4. Victoria Cabral (New Britain, Conn./Miss Porter's School / Hofstra University) led the attack for UNH by going 2-for-3 with a home run. Jess Spivey (Holland, Pa./Council Rock) and Meghan Chamoff (Roslyn Heights, N.Y./Herricks) both contributed a hit a piece.

Le Moyne struck first, scoring a run in the second off of starter Nicole King (Front Royal, Va./Warren County).

New Haven was set down in order in both the first and second innings before Jen Palase (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) reached on a throwing error to start the third. Cabral then singled and advanded to second on an error by the rightfielder, allowing Palase to score all the way from first.

King set down the Dolphins in order in the fourth and fifth innings and, with one out in the fifth, Cabral drilled her first career home run over the left field fence to stake the Blue and Gold to a 2-1 lead.

Le Moyne led off the sixth inning with a single and King was lifted in favor of Cabral. The Dolphins would load the bases with one out ebfore Cabral got a big strikeout for the second out and nearly escape the jam.
