With the score still 2-0,
Lindsey Couturier (Dighton, Mass./Dighton Rehoboth Regional) singled to start the bottom of the forth. After back-to-back outs by New Haven,
Gabby DeLeo (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert Catholic) and
Jen Palase (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) both singled to load the bases. A two-out strikout ended the Blue and Gold threat.
Pace and UNH both went down in order in the fifth inning, and the Setters took a 3-0 lead on a Alicia Marino field's choice in the sixth.
The Chargers again looked to get on the board as
Brooke Fisher (Erial, N.J./Camden Catholic) walked in the sixth and
Julie Devlin (Baldwin, N.Y./Northwood School) hit a one-out single to left field. Palase was able to work a two-out walk, but New Haven again left the bases loaded. The Setters added two insurance runs in the top half of the seventh on a double steal and a Larm RBI single.
The Blue and Gold looked to mount a comeback in the seventh as
Gilly Childs (Los Angeles, Calif./Notre Dame Academy) reached on a pinch-hit single and
Brandy Dianno (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) beat out an infield hit. Couturier then launched a 1-1 pitch over the left field wall for her conference-best ninth home run of the year. The comeback fell short, however, as the next two batters were retired to end the game.
