Kennelly Double Double Leads Chargers in Three Set Loss at Saint Rose

ALBANY, N.Y. – Junior outside hitter Meghan Kennelly (Detroit, Mich./Eisenhower) finished with a double double, 10 kills, 15 digs, leading the New Haven volleyball team in a three-set (19-25, 14-25, 22-25) loss to Saint Rose on Tuesday night. Kennelly's 10 kills represented the only Charger to record double figures on the offensive end. With the loss, New Haven falls to 11-10 overall and is now .500 in Northeast-10 Conference play at 3-3.

Joining Kennelly in leading the Chargers offense was Alex Bussey (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) who finished with a team-high .333 hitting percentage with six kills and three errors in nine total attempts. Freshman setter Kristine Rios (Miami, Fla./Coral Reef) finished the match without hitting an error, putting two of her four attempts down for points.

Kennelly's 15 digs on the defensive end also led the Chargers, against the only player to finish with double figures defensively. Following her in leading the team was Rios and libero Devin Smith (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush) who each finished with six digs. Graduate middle blocker, Micki Impellizeri (Seaford, N.Y./St. Anthony's), who finished with four kills, led the Chargers on the block where she finished with three total blocks, including a pair of solo blocks. Bussey and Nicole Morales (Moca, Puerto Rico/Carib Christian) each added two blocks.

As a team, New Haven finished with 28 kills in 95 total attempts. Rios, the rookie setter, led the Chargers with 129 assists, while Kennelly added five.

The Chargers continue a three-match road stretch on Saturday evening when they travel to Saint Michael's. First serve in the Northeast-10 battle is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
