Chargers Sweep Saint Michael’s in Northeast-10 Action

Colchester, Vt. – Freshman setter Kristine Rios (Miami, Fla./Coral Reef) was one of two Chargers who finished without a hitting error to lead the University of New Haven women's volleyball team to a three-set sweep of Northeast-10 rival Saint Michael's. Rios joined Kristen Lee (Colorado Springs, Colo./Liberty) in finishing with five and six kills, respectively, as both finished without an error.

Rios led the pair of top hitters with a .625 attack percentage, while also leading the Chargers with 33 assists and chipping in defensively with seven digs and one block. She also led the team with four aces, part of a season-high 10 total for New Haven.

Lee closed out the match with six kills in 21 attempts for a .286 hitting average while joining two others with double figure digs with 10. Junior Meghan Kennelly (Detroit, Mich./Eisenhower) led all Chargers offensively with seven kills, while also joining in the defensive efforts, matching Lee with 10 digs. Two other Chargers would also match Lee's total of six kills; Micki Impellizeri (Seaford, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and Lexis Peterson (Windsor, N.Y./Windsor Central), while Alex Bussey (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) and Nicole Morales (Moca, Puerto Rico/Carib Christian) each finished with five kills and just one error apiece.

As a team, New Haven finished the match hitting .271 with 40 kills and 11 errors in 107 total attacks. In addition to the 10 service aces, the Chargers also combined for double figure blocks with 11 total, led by Impellizeri who finished with a career-high eight blocks.

In addition to Kennelly and Lee's 10 digs, freshman defensive specialist Brianna Mirmina (Bethany, Conn./Amity Regional) led the defense with 13 digs, tying her season-high set two matches ago against Le Moyne.

The Chargers close out a three-match road stretch on Sunday afternoon when they complete a back-to-back trip with a visit to Saint Anselm. First serve in the league battle is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
