BOX SCORE LANTANA, Fla. – The University of New Haven baseball team put up three or more runs in three different innings as it won its second straight game, 13-4 against the Caldwell Cougars at the Santaluces Sports Complex on Tuesday afternoon.

With the win, the Chargers improve to 2-3. Caldwell falls to 2-4.

After the two teams traded runs in the first, New Haven jumped ahead with four in the bottom of the second. The inning opened as
Eddie Tammaro (South Hempstead, N.Y./South Side) reached on an error and moved to second on a balk.
Jack Zagaja (Merrick, N.Y./St. Dominic) singled back through the middle to plate Tammaro and put New Haven on top 2-1. The Chargers loaded the bases as
Nick Russo (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) was hit by a pitch and
Robert Petrillo (Branford, Conn./Branford) walked. A walk to
Zach Collett (Westbrook, Maine/Westbrook) forced in a run before
TJ Riccio (Port Jeff Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) doubled to score two more runs and put New Haven up 5-1.

Caldwell rallied for three runs in the top of the fourth, but the Chargers answered right back with a trio of runs in the bottom of the inning. With two out, Riccio and
Kyle Cullen (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) walked before Tammaro reached on an error that allowed Riccio to score. Zagaja came up next and laced a double into left-center to score Cullen and Tammaro and extend the lead to 8-4. Another run came across in the fifth inning when Petrillo singled to drive in
Tom Walraven (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) who doubled earlier in the frame.

In the sixth, the Chargers started the offense early as Cullen doubled and moved to third on a ground out. Zagaja drove him home a batter later with a single to put New Haven up 10-4. After a Russo walk, and a wild pitch put runners on second and third, Walraven drove both Zagaja and Russo home with a single to make it 12-4. The scoring was capped in the seventh when Cullen hit his first homerun of the season, a solo blast to left.

Joey Royer (Westbrook, Maine/Cheverus) (1-1) picked up his first win of the season for New Haven, going five ininngs on the mound. Brian Caselii tossed three shutout innings, scattering two hits and striking out three.

Offensively, Zagaja had three hits and drove in four while Cullen and Walraven each had two hits.

The Chargers wrap their Florida trip on Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. when they face Lynn University in Boca Raton.
