ALBANY, N.Y. – The University of New Haven baseball team split a Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division doubleheader with The College of Saint Rose on Saturday afternoon, winning game one by an 8-2 final before dropping the second contest 19-4.

With the split, New Haven is now 9-10 overall, 5-6 in the NE-10 and 5-4 in the Southwest Division. Saint Rose is 6-17, 3-8 in conference and 3-6 in divisional play.

Offensively for the day,
Jack Zagaja (Merrick, N.Y./St. Dominic) had five hits including a home run, two doubles and four RBI.
Nick Russo (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) and
Kyle Cullen (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) each had three hits and a double with Russo driving in four.

In game one, New Haven got on the board in the top of the first inning thanks to some shaky defense.
Brendan O'Reilly (Devon, Pa./Conestoga) reached on an error and stole second before moving to third base on a throwing error. He would come in to score on a groundout by
Tom Walraven (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush).
After the Golden Knights tied the game in the bottom of the first, the Chargers took the lead back in the second as
Robert Petrillo (Branford, Conn./Branford) walked to open the frame and stole second. Two batters later, he moved to third on a fielding error before Zagaja singled him home for a 2-1 lead.

New Haven plated single runs in the fourth and sixth innings to extend the advantage. In the fourth with one out, Russo reached on a fielder's choice and came in to score when Zagaja doubled him home. After a Saint Rose run in the fifth, the Chargers scored again as with two outs, a Cullen double and a Russo single made it 4-2.

Four total runs in the eighth and ninth innings sealed the game for New Haven. With one out in the eighth, Petrillo walked and Cullen singled. Russo was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Zagaja came through with his third run scoring hit of the day, singling in Petrillo. Two batters later, with the bases still loaded, O'Reilly walked to force in Cullen, making it 6-2 Chargers.

In the ninth,
Zach Collett (Westbrook, Maine/Westbrook) led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by
TJ Riccio (Port Jeff Station, N.Y./Comsewogue). Petrillo followed with a single to score Collett before Russo plated Petrillo with a double to cap the scoring.

Vincent Aprea (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) (3-2) picked up the game one victory, allowing just one earned run in seven innings of work, striking out three.
Brian Caselli (Stratford, Conn./Stratford) and
Will Aldam (Danbury, Conn./Berkshire School) each pitched a scoreless inning out of the bullpen to preserve the win.

In game two, the Chargers scored the first runs of the game in the fourth inning as Collett reached on a fielder's choice followed by a Riccio triple for a 1-0 lead. Cullen reached on an error, bringing home Riccio before a single by Russo scored Cullen to make it 3-0.

The Golden Knights bats woke up in the bottom half of the inning as they scored five times in the frame and plated all their runs in their final five times at the dish.
