WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven baseball team scored on a suicide squeeze in the bottom half of the tenth inning, lifting the Chargers to an 8-7 win in a Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division game against the American International Yellow Jackets on Friday afternoon.

Key Players:·      Eddie Tammaro (South Hempstead, N.Y./South Side) went 3-for-4 with a career-high five RBI. It was the most RBI in a game for a New Haven player since Brendon Buckley drove in six against Pace on March 7, 2014.
·      TJ Riccio (Port Jeff Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) had three hits and scored three runs.
·      Robert Petrillo (Branford, Conn./Branford) had two hits and reached base safely three times.
·      Dylon Grzenda (North Attleboro, Mass./North Attleboro) drove in the winning run on a squeeze bunt in the tenth inning.Â
How it Happened:·      New Haven jumped out with four runs in the bottom of the first inning. With runners on second and third and run in, Tammaro delivered the big blow, a double to left center, scoring Riccio and Petrillo. An
Alex Palmieri (West Haven, Conn./West Haven) single plated Tammaro for the final run of the frame.
·      AIC tied the game with two in the second and single runs each in the fifth and sixth innings.
·      Tied at 4-4 in the seventh, the Chargers loaded the bases with two out on a single by
Nick Russo (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) and walks by
Jack Zagaja (Merrick, N.Y./St. Dominic) and Riccio before Tammaro came through again, this time with a bases clearing triple.
·      The Yellow Jackets scored a run in the eighth and two in the ninth to send the game to extra innings.
·      The Blue and Gold scored the winning run on a bases loaded bunt by Grzenda.Â
Turning Point:With the game tied 7-7 in the bottom of the 10th inning, New Haven loaded the bases with one out on singles by Riccio,
PJ Contreras (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) and
Joe Caico (Hopedale, Mass./Worcester (MA)). Â On a 1-1 count, Grzenda laid down a suicide squeeze bunt that Yellow Jackets pitcher Mike Coyne flipped back to the plate. Riccio was able to slide in just ahead of the throw with the winning run.

By the Numbers:·      Every member of the Chargers starting lineup reached base safely.
·      New Haven collected a season-high 14 hits for the second straight game.
