WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven baseball team picked up its fourth straight win as the Chargers downed the Caldwell Cougars in both ends of a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Blue and Gold won game one 5-1 before taking the second game 6-3 in a pair of seven inning contests. New Haven is now 13-12 on the season.

Andrew Garcia (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue Medford) continued his hot hitting, going 4-for-5 with two triples and three RBI in the twinbill.

Jack Zagaja (Merrick, N.Y./St. Dominic) had three doubles and drive in two.

Nick Russo (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) drove in three runs in the two games.

David Palmer (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) earned the game one victory going 6.2 innings, striking out a career-high tying eight batters.

Luke Foster (Stonington, Conn./Stonington) earned his first career win pitching five solid innings in game two.

How it Happened (Game One):
--The Chargers scored a run in the bottom of the first inning when Zagaja doubled home
Robert Petrillo (Branford, Conn./Branford) who had reached on a fielder's choice.
--Two more runs scored in the third on an RBI triple from Petrillo and a groundout from Zagaja.
--New Haven put the game away in the fourth as
Joe Caico (Hopedale, Mass./Worcester (MA)) led off with a bunt single followed by a Garcia triple. Two batters later, Russo lifted a sac fly to score Garcia.
--After allowing two runners in the first inning, Palmer retired 15 Caldwell hitters in a row.

How it Happened (Game Two):
--Caldwell got on the board first with a pair of runs in the opening inning.
--New Haven responded, scoring four times in the second. Keying the inning were an RBI single from TJ Riccio (Port Jeff Station, N.Y./Comsewogue), and a two-run triple by Garcia.
--The Chargers added a pair of runs in the fourth as Garcia and Dylon Grzenda (North Attleboro, Mass./North Attleboro) singled and moved up on a throwing error before a Russo single plated both runners.
By the Numbers:
--The Blue and Gold now moves above the .500 mark at 13-12 on the season.
--The Chargers struck out 13 Cougars' hitters on the day.
--Six of the 15 New Haven hits were for extra bases.
