Baseball Upended in DH by Adelphi

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The University of New Haven baseball team dropped both ends of a Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division doubleheader to the Adelphi Panthers on Sunday afternoon by scores of 6-4 and 3-1. New Haven is now 13-15 on the season.

Key Players:
  • Nick Russo (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) had five hits in the twinbill including a 4-for-4 performance in game one.
  • Andrew Garcia (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue Medford) had a hit in each game of the DH, extending his hitting streak to nine games.
  • Nick Perrelli (North Branford, Conn./North Branford) had two hits in game one.
  • Kellen Croce (Middlebury, Conn./Gunnery School) allowed just two runs, striking out six in game two.

How it Happened (Game One):
  • The Chargers opened the scoring with two runs in the first inning on an RBI single from Robert Petrillo (Branford, Conn./Branford) and a sacrifice fly from PJ Contreras (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge), scoring Russo and Perrelli respectively.
  • Adelphi plated three runs in the first two innings to open a 3-2 lead.
  • New Haven took the lead back in the fifth on an RBI double by Russo to score Garcia, knotting the score a 3-3. A Perrelli single later in the frame brought home James Myers (Saint James, N.Y./Smithtown East) to put the Blue and Gold up 4-3.
  • The Panthers scored three times in the seventh to take the lead for good.

How it Happened (Game Two):
  • New Haven broke a scoreless tie in the second inning as Garcia's fourth double of the season brought home Joe Caico (Hopedale, Mass./Worcester (MA)) who had walked with two out.
  • Adelphi scored single runs in the second, fourth and seventh innings to build a 3-1 lead.
  • The Chargers had a chance in the eighth inning, but a double play allowed the Panthers to get out of the frame.
