WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven women's volleyball team continued to roll in Northeast-10 Conference with a three-set sweep (25-19, 25-14, 25-12) Stonehill on Saturday afternoon at Charger Gymnasium. With the win, the seventh sweep of the season for the Blue and Gold, New Haven improves to 15-7 on the season and 10-0 in league play.
Leading the Chargers on the day was senior outside hitter Caroline Martins (Tres Pontas, Brazil) who finished as the only player in the match in double figures offensively with 13 kills. She also finished with a .444 attack percentage with one error in 27 total attempts.
Joining her in leading the team was freshman Kali Greathead (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley) with eight kills, while senior Alex Bussey (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) and junior Kristine Rios (Miami, Fla./Coral Reef) each added five. Among all the leading hitters, Rios led the team with a .556 attack percentage, finishing without a hitting error in nine total attacks. As a team, the Chargers combined for 41 total kills and a .327 attack percentage with nine miscues in 98 attempts.
Offensively, New Haven also combined for six service aces, led by freshman setter Angela Chan (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny) with a pair. Chan was also one of two setters in a 6-2 offense for the Blue and Gold as she finished with eight assists, while Rios led the team with 22 helpers.
Defensively, junior libero Lindsey Kim (Rye Brook, N.Y./Blind Brook) led the team with 11 digs, the only Charger in double figures. Following her in leading the way was Rios, Chan and Greathead who each finished with nine digs, while Martins chipped in eight. New Haven also combined for three total blocks with senior Lexis Peterson (Windsor, N.Y./Windsor Central) assisting on all three.
With a bye week in NE10 action, the volleyball team returns to the court just once in the week ahead when they host in-state rival and ECC foe Bridgeport on Thursday night. Prior to the match, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will host the SAAC Trunk or Treat in the North Campus parking lot. First serve against the Purple Knights is set for 7:00 p.m.
