ALBANY, N.Y. – The University of New Haven volleyball team extended its unbeaten streak to seven straight games, including its sixth straight in Northeast-10 Conference play with a straight-set sweep (25-17, 25-22, 25-22) of Saint Rose on Saturday afternoon. Leading the Chargers on the afternoon was junior setter Kristine Rios (Miami, Fla./Coral Reef) who finished among the leading hitters with nine kills, while adding 30 assists.
Joining Rios with a team-best nine kills was the trio of Alex Bussey (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy), Caroline Martins (Tres Pontas, Brazil) and Kali Greathead (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley). Among the four leading hitters, Bussey and Greathead led all New Haven hitters, each with a .368 attack percentage as they each finished with a pair of errors in 19 attempts. As a team, the Blue and Gold combined for a .193 hitting average with 42 total kills.
Defensively, sophomore Lindsey Kim (Rye Brook, N.Y./Blind Brook) led the Chargers with 18 digs, her 12th straight match in double figures. Overall, Kim was one of three players to finish in double figures defensively, joined by Greathead with 15 and Angela Chan (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny) with 10. Chan also finished with seven assists and added one of the Chargers three total service aces. Senior Annika Hacker (Bayreuth, Germany/Littleton (Colo.)) chipped in the remaining two aces.
As a team, New Haven also combined for four total blocks with Bussey playing a part in all four of those put-backs, including a pair of solo blocks. Martins and Mallory Nowicki (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northview) had a role in Bussey's two block assists.
New Haven will play a second straight match away from its home court when they next take the hardwood at Bentley's Dana Center. First serve against the Falcons is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
