WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Four Chargers finished in double figures to lead the New Haven women's volleyball team (10-6, 3-1 NE10) to a four-set win (25-21, 25-9, 23-25, 25-13) over the visiting Pace Setters on Tuesday night.
Leading the way for the Blue and Gold was sophomore outside hitter
Ruby Fera (Seattle, Wash./Ballard) who was one of three players to rack up a double-double on the night. Fera dropped in a team-high 12 kills and closed out the night with 14 digs, second most on the team defensively.
Joining her in leading the Chargers scoring was junior
Kali Greathead (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley) (11 kills) and junior
Camille Garden (Atlanta, Ga./Landmark Christian) and senior
Mallory Nowicki (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northview) who each finished with 10 kills. Among all the leading hitters, Fera led the Chargers as she finished errorless in 30 total attempts for a .400 attack percentage. Sophomore
Jalynn Finnie (Pearland, Texas/Dawson) and freshman
Emily Barry (Freeport, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) also chipped in on the offensive end with five and four kills, respectively.
Overall, New Haven finished with 54 kills with the Chargers setting duo of junior
Angela Chan (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny) and freshman
Sammie Paguia (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) combined with rookie libero
Julia Guarniere (Milford, N.H./Milford) rounded up 48 assists. Chan led the trio with 20 assists, while Paguia added 18 helpers. Guarniere added to her team-high 16 digs with eight assists and also finished as one of two leaders on the team with three aces.
Joining Guarniere in leading the Chargers serving success was Greathead who matched her with three aces. Overall, New Haven dropped in nine aces while Greathead also added 12 digs to the defensive efforts to close out a double-double for the Temecula, Calif. native.
The Chargers also combined to score five points on their blocking efforts with Finnie, Garden and Nowicki all leading the way with three total blocks.
New Haven will continue Northeast-10 Conference play with a trip to Rindge, N.H. on Friday evening when they take on Franklin Pierce at 7:00 p.m.
