RINDGE, N.H. – The New Haven volleyball team battled back from a first set loss to score a four-set win over the Franklin Pierce Ravens, improving to 4-1 in Northeast-10 Conference play. Leading the Blue and Gold on the night were a pair of outside hitter Mallory Nowicki (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northview) and Kali Greathead (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley) who each put up 15 kills.
Nowicki and Greathead were part of three players to finish in double figures offensively for the Chargers with Ruby Fera (Seattle, Wash./Ballard) adding to the efforts with 13 kills. Camille Garden (Atlanta, Ga./Landmark Christian) and Jalynn Finnie (Pearland, Texas/Dawson) each added to the scoring with seven and five kills, respectively with Finnie leading all hitters with a .500 attack percentage, closing out the match with a single error in eight attempts. Among the three leading hitters, Greathead lead the Chargers with a .394 hitting percentage with a pair of miscues in 33 attempts.
As a team, New Haven combined for 57 total kills with the Chargers rookie setter Sammie Paguia (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) leading the Blue and Gold to a .288 hitting average with a career-high 46 assists. She would combine that with 10 digs to finish with a double double on the night.
Freshman libero Julia Guarniere (Milford, N.H./Milford) led the Chargers defensive performance with 17 digs while she and Paguia were the only two to finish in double figures. Finishing just shy of a double double on the night was Fera and Greathead who each finished with nine digs while Nowicki closed out the night with eight defensive returns.
Combined, the Chargers finished with nine total blocks led by Garden with the middle blocker racking up five total blocks, three solo and two assisted. Finnie would follow her with four total blocks, one of which was solo.
New Haven returns to Charger Gymnasium on Wednesday night when they host a perennial top NE10 team in Adelphi. First serve against the Panthers is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
