THE LEAD
Looking to remain in contention for a top spot in the Northeast-10 Conference standings, the New Haven volleyball team returns to Charger Gymnasium on Wednesday night to take on a perennial top team in the conference, Adelphi. The Chargers are looking to build off of a three-match win streak while Adelphi looks to bounce back from a five set loss to Saint Rose over the weekend.
SERIES HISTORY VS ADELPHI
In a series that dates back to 1994, the Chargers hold a commanding 27-7 lead in the all-time series against the Panthers. New Haven looks to avenge a three-set loss in the only meeting last year against Adelphi while prior to that match, the Chargers had won four straight against the Panthers. New Haven held the lead in the early part of the series winning the first 11, all without surrendering a single game.
SCOUTING THE CHARGERS
New Haven has won its last three straight matches and eight of its last nine heading into the first of back-to-back home games against Adelphi and Southern New Hampshire. For the season, junior
Kali Greathead (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley) leads the Chargers with 174 kills including a high for all players this season with 21 against Mercy. She is joined in triple digits by sophomore
Ruby Fera (Seattle, Wash./Ballard) (168 kills), senior
Mallory Nowicki (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northview) (168 kills) and junior
Camille Garden (Atlanta, Ga./Landmark Christian) (130 kills). Of the leading hitters Garden leads the way with a .236 attack percentage while she also adds a team-high 55 blocks, third most in the NE10. The Chargers utilize a 6-2 rotation at the setter position with junior
Angela Chan (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny) (395 assists) and freshman
Sammie Paguia (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) (242 assists) splitting the workload. Defensively, New Haven has relied on rookie libero
Julia Guarniere (Milford, N.H./Milford) to do the majority of the work, racking up 318 digs, while Nowicki and sophomore
Jalynn Finnie (Pearland, Texas/Dawson) follows Garden in the blocking efforts with 33 total returns.
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
Losers of their last two matches, the Panthers look break back into the win column for the first time since a 3-0 decision over Assumption on October 12. For the season, Adelphi is led by sophomore outside hitter Sara Mandreja who is one of just two players in triple digits with 187 kills, an average of 3.46 per set. Joining her in leading the offense is junior middle and right side Cara McKenzie who adds 162 kills, and leads the way with a .247 attack percentage. McKenzie also leads the team with 54 total blocks. Defensively, senior libero Katarina Warburton has taken the majority of the load, racking up 303 digs.
