MANCHESTER, N.H. – Senior outside hitter
Mallory Nowicki (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northview) led the team with 11 kills and a .258 hitting percentage as the New Haven women's volleyball team dropped a three set (25-22, 25-21, 25-23) decision to Saint Anselm to open up a two-match road weekend.
Nowicki was one of two Chargers to finish in double figures joined by sophomore
Ruby Fera (Seattle, Wash./Ballard) who dropped in 10 kills and closed out the match with a .233 hitting percentage. Following Nowicki and Fera in leading the offense was freshman
Emily Barry (Freeport, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) who chipped in a half dozen kills while leading the team with a .357 average, suffering just a single error in 14 attempts.
As a team, New Haven finished with a combined 38 kills with the offense marshalled by a pair of setters in the Blue and Gold's six-two rotation. Leading the efforts was freshman setter
Sammie Paguia (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) with 17 assists while junior
Angela Chan (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny) closed out the match with 14 assists.
Defensively, the Chargers were led by freshman libero Julia Guarnieri who was one of two players in double digits with 17 digs. Joining her was Fera who capped off her double double with 10 digs while also adding a team-high three blocks, one solo and two assisted.
The Chargers will close out their two-match road weekend up north with a Saturday afternoon match-up against the Saint Micahel's Purple Knights. First serve in the NE10 battle is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the Vincent C. Ross Sports Center.
